So beautiful. I never had a grandma and feel a sense of loss when others talk about theirs. My mom, however, was old enough to be my grandma. She treated me like a daughter and a granddaughter both. So I guess I was doubly blessed in that way.

Oh my goodness I have spoken to SO many friends missing their grandmothers this past week! Me included. I just told someone yesterday I would kill for just one more conversation with her. Just being in her presence was a calming force.

I also loved the bit about the sunflowers. When we had done what we knew would be our last IVF cycle, and we only had 1 good embryo to transfer, during that 10 days I visited the sunflower field in Middleton. I watched those sunflowers stand strong but with droopy heads, waiting for the sun to rise that day. The sun was up, but it was very cloudy so they all faced east, looking for their friend to peek through and say hello. I was so encouraged by those sunflowers, patiently waiting with belief that even though they couldn’t see the sun that day, they knew it would return. I mustered the little bit of faith I had left to hope our cycle had been successful from those beautiful plants. Today, whenever I see sunflowers I am reminded of the comfort they provided me then. They were featured as the theme for the baby shower that came 7 months later. :-)

This is beautiful Tam! Sunflowers are incredible. They actually can clean up radioactive waste from the soil, something Anna taught me. I would also love one more conversation, but then I think I kind of talk to her all the time. 🤗

I didn’t know that about sunflowers either! I’m glad you still chat with your grandmother. It keeps them close to us.

I love this so much. My grandmother was a huge role model and love of my life. She’s gone now and this post is hitting me. Waterworks! Thank you, Mary.

Your poem is lovely...I dearly loved my Grammie...spent hours snuggled together with her in her arm chair, poring over garden catalogs...and I think of her every single time I’m in my garden...especially harvesting rhubarb from the plant she dug up for my first garden 32 years ago. ❤️‍🩹🥰

This is so beautiful Sherri. Thanks for sharing and joining us in this space. What is your favorite thing to make with rhubarb?

It’s so hard to choose one thing: strawberry rhubarb jam, strawberry rhubarb coffee cake, rhubarb juice with sparkling water...kinda like fizzy lemonade, and strawberry rhubarb pie, like my Grammie used to make💕

Those all sound so delicious. I make a rhubarb crisp every year for my son’s bday. I love rhubarb jam, and we love sparkling water in our fam so I’m super curious about that one. 😊

This is beautiful Mary, I love the voice over it’s a nice way to bring your poetry to life. You’ve inspired me to think about doing this too!

One of my closest friends and mentors left his body and ascended last year unexpectedly. That got me to ponder on grief, loss, death and change. One of the things I came to realise is that he hasn’t really gone anywhere, the way he serves has simply changed. His light has now merged with mine and I carry it forth in my heart. His light permeates through everything I create because an essence of him lives through me.

I’m also reminded of the circle of life lesson that is shared in the Lion King movie. Nothing goes to waste as we are all connected, a part of nature. From God’s eye view, it’s all perfect. You can watch the scene here if you haven’t seen it already: https://youtu.be/bW7PlTaawfQ

I’m glad you enjoyed the audio. This one was my fav because of the waves and those roosters. 😊I am sorry about your friend. I think the way you are thinking about him and about life is beautiful.

“ and slowly their faces turned to the earth

until they resembled a row of mourners

bearing witness to what once was

And I wandered what to do”

Just beautiful, thank you! (And now I know why your nouns on my post were travel related… )🌻
