Your writing gets me every time, Mary. You might lose your keys, but never what is key. Wishing you the best as you ride the waves of so many transitions.
How could you not say yes? It’s wonderful that your family can offer Matteo a home away from home. We all need that from time to time. You and your family clearly hold a special place in his heart. Sending you strength, patience, and a good dose of humor during these chaotic last weeks of school….I’d send love too, but I think that your heart is already overflowing with love. ❤️ PS maybe you need a tote bag that hangs near your door with keys, shoes, glasses and headphones dropped inside. Grab it and go!
Oh, Mary. I've not made time to read some of your recent posts, but I am so glad to have found my way to this one. So glad Matteo found his way back to you. So glad to know that there are folks like you and Dan, and Anna and Seabass, and yes, even the puppy, who have not lost their compassion, who are willing to have their hearts break again for the sake of doing what's needed to protect someone who has no power in this system. Bless your hearts, for real.
Mary, I am so moved by all of this and sending love to you, Mateo, and your family in the midst of all the change. This sentence is something I can relate to: “It is healing and heartbreaking in the same sentence.”♥️♥️ The losing and the finding…the endings and beginnings…thank you for sharing it with your open, honest heart.
You sure do have a knack for making me cry. I'm so happy he has a wonderful place to be after going through so much. I'm not at all religious, but bless you for being angels in his life (I'll figure out a better way to say that later).
I lose things regularly, although I have a system or so I thought . I allegedly place items in the same place. Yet I make a few trips when I leave my house to the car and back to the house well because I am missing something. The keys are hanging in the door lock, sunglasses on top of my head.
Matteo, as I listened about your family's foster story, first I thought, is he ok? Why is he a foster? How brave you are to foster. Then I do what I do best, worry. Yes across the lines. When Matteo returns to his family of origin, emotionally those impacts to everyone. Courage to love and let go, we can't control life or our hearts. Thank you. 🌞🙏✌️
Oh wow, Mary, I hear the heart/break/heal in your words. More, I feel it. Thank you for what you are doing, how you are being. ❤️ Blessings to your expanded family.
By the way, I've been immersed in losing and finding, in this quietly terrific memoir by Kathryn Shulz, Lost & Found. A whole meditation on losing (her father and all the other things like keys) and another one on finding (her wife and a whole lot more). I listened to the audiobook, read by the author, really enjoyed it.
I love this story - heart full! ... and my puppy is going to turn two this summer and life with a dog is just about to begin as life with a chewing love-tyrant ends : )
Such a beautiful, vulnerable post. Sending prayers to St Anthony for your lost things and in general for all your family’s journeys. Sounds like summer is gearing up to be one filled with a lot of emotion.

A beautiful and beautifully told story.
Thanks Elizabeth and thanks for the restack.
This is a beautiful reflection. I’m thankful you and your family get another chance to love and be loved by Matteo, even though it’s hard.
Me too! ❤️
