Yet another lovely post. I loved reading your whys for writing. Many resonated with me. I think of Flannery O’Connor being asked why she wrote, and she said, “Because I’m good at it.” May we all have such confidence!
Another lovely and thought-provoking post. I am working on revisions of what may be most of my memoir, waiting on it to reveal itself as complete or not so much. This was a great interview with a very captivating person. Looking forward to updates on the adventures of your book too...
I like your patience in the process. I think I need to do some of that, just sitting with the material and seeing where it leads. I have a tendency to try and force things. Thank you so much for your generous note and for becoming a paid subscriber. It made my day!
I love this: "what is the voice that is true to me? If I get quiet enough, I might hear an answer." And here's something I'm learning after chasing after my own writing voice for the last 70 years: It comes without my doing anything to encourage it. Or maybe the encouragement I give it is to keep putting pen to paper and trusting. The more we write, the stronger our true voice becomes. I know it when I'm in it. And when the Voice takes over, I am at her command. As Andrea Bass says in her comment about Flannery O'Connor: May we all have such confidence. Yes, write because we're good at it. Own it. The audience will come. Thank you for sharing your thoughts and your process.

So true. Thanks for sharing that.

Thanks Verna for your thoughtful comment. I like what you say about how writing leads us to greater truth and that we have to trust in the practice.
