This reads like a love letter to tennis. 40s is definitely a time to revisit to our teen years—the joys and the pains—and finally getting to integrate everything we’ve learned and loved.
"Together, we move from where we were to where we are to where we want to be, each step steeped in kindness."
This is actual magic. The way these words tumble together, so simple in terms of concept, but so hard in practice is so lovely. I have some current experiences, trying something I thought I did well before, but it turns out that I am still a beginner after all. Love, love, love.
Being kind to yourself can have such a powerful impact on so many things. I love that your older self was able to bring that lovingkindness to bear as you returned to tennis.
I’ve taken up tennis again in my early 30s. It’s amazing how much sensibility and patience an adult brain can give to trusting a process. Although I played competitively as a teenager, I think I’m currently playing at a far higher level.
I love the way you write about your hobbies! You almost (ALMOST) make me want to play tennis. 😀 Your message of self-kindness is always important for me to remember. Good luck hitting the ball and whatnot! 🎾

I’m feeling the same way as I begin yoga again! And I need to talk more to my teenage self. 🥰
Thanks Tess! I love this comment. 🥰
I love your connections between tennis and self-love!
Thank you!
