Mary, your students are so fortunate to have you! I'm wishing I were one of them (at age 65!). I love that you keep Devotions nearby. Over the past year or two, I've been memorizing Mary Oliver poems, both as a spiritual practice and a dementia-prevention exercise. You and I are members of the tribe that loves Mary's poetry 🤗❤

We certainly are. I also like to memorize her poems sometimes. I’m so glad we can be in this space and learn from each other.

I was thinking this, too, Joni.

May we all have such wise teachers in our lives.

And yea to memorizing poems in order to keep our brains sharp!

Your writing and your teaching and you r deep ability to be vulnerable and to rejoice in life despite the pain and grief is stunning to witness. You’re so adept at sharing your life in your writing … it does feel like a big hug. Also so grateful for when you introduced me to Mary Oliver after I told you I hated poetry. I’ve learned so much from you.

Thank you! Thanks so much for reading! And thank you for writing Absolutely True Diary. My students and I love it. It takes some important and complex themes and presents them in a way my students can relate to. It is a window into so many other works. And it has such heart!

This was so lovely, thank you. Thinking a lot lately about telling stories-what’s important to pass on, what should live on for my story and those who came before-most who I didn’t know. Looking forward to the book recs in this pocket.
