As a non-gardener, I enjoy the passion and care of other people as they describe and share their growing things. Even as I do, I discount it for myself because I have never been able to grow much of anything, in or outside of my house. I favor cut flowers because I know what to expect. You get them, they are gorgeous, and then, right on cue, they die. When we moved into our new house in 2020, my dear mother in law gifted me a mock orange plant. I grew up with this floral fragrant white blossom and planted one (successfully!) at our house on the west side. This plant made it from the pot to the ground two years ago. Yesterday I went out to admire the lawn my husband had mown, and I spotted it. After five years of waiting, blossoms have happened. the joy was off the charts. I get it. I may not be that good at it, but I get it.
As an avid gardener and former farmer who now works with people in agriculture, I very much appreciate the value of time spent observing. "Walk the fields," they might say, but I am smittten with calling it "noticing time." Thank you for giving me that in the context of an already rich post.
So beautifully written Mary. Thank you for sharing. I also love doing yoga on my back patio and seeing the trees and shrubs and birdfeeders upsidedown.
I walk through my garden every morning without fail because I have to let the hens out. They free range in the entire fenced-in yard. This is a blessing because it allows me to notice all the growing things. Something new has come up and is about to flower. I can hardly wait to see what it is.
I love this practice. It's been so cold, I haven't really shifted into this pattern, but this is a good reminder to start my day in my garden, just noticing.
One of my favorite summer morning routines is a coffee walk around the garden. Not for doing work. Just observing and sometimes talking to the plants about their progress. Very peaceful way to start the day.
ritual in my garden. I like it best as the sun is rising and birds begin to sing. I have a seat near where hummingbirds feed. It brings me great peace to start the day.
Beautiful, both the reflection and the photos. I love how much you love your garden!
♥️
Lovely. I also love to sit in the garden and just observe its beauty. It is so soothing to my soul. One day, I’d like to have a garden of my own. 🌱 🌻
Love that plan Leah!
Your garden is lovely!
Thank you!
This is so beautiful

Yay! Being a blanket!
I should say cold AND rainy ... and I've had trouble dragging myself away from the fire. But this week I will make a shift
Fires are nice too!

I love this- it’s kind of teacherly too- a daily check in with plants.
May the light keep shining just right for you and may will all keep looking for the light.
I also love the poppies and I firm the heads they leave behind after the petals fall away to be majestic.
Me too! May the light shine on us all.
And may I one day learn to spell.
Spelling is such an overrated skill
I have the same morning
